Charlie's
Adopted!
August 9th
Charlie’s infection persisted and could not be resolved.
However, x-rays showed that Charlie’s leg has almost completely healed
so the vet removed the plate and pins holding it
together. Charlie has now been given a clean bill of health, and
after so many months in his foster home, the family couldn’t give
him up. He has now been adopted by the folks responsible for his
lengthy recuperation and we wish all of them a long, happy life
together! And a huge thank you to all of you for your support and
concern for our Charlie!
June 30th
Charlie is 80% healed but his infection persists.
Veterinarians have moved him to a stronger antibiotic and we are
waiting to see if that solves the problem. WCHS sends a BIG
thank you to his foster family who have been diligent about his
lengthy care and recovery.
June 4th
Charlie had his follow-up x-rays on June 1st and is
now showing signs of an infection. Doctors say that, in rare
cases, dogs will develop an infection in the bone graft that is
persistent. We are waiting for test results now…and they will
attempt to treat the infection. However, if the infection
persists, they will have to “un-do” the bone graft and provide us
with alternative treatments including possible
amputation. Although the news is not good, Charlie remains in good
spirits and very affectionate.
May 10th
Charlie had his surgery on April 16th and was at the shelter for a
week before he went to his foster home. He is on pain medication
and antibiotics, and is being given a mild sedative for 6 weeks to
keep him calm and less active (and THAT is hard to do with this
boy!). He got his staples/stitches out last week and will have
x-rays at the end of May. If the x-rays looks good, he will be
taken off the sedative and be put up for adoption.
