Pre-Surgical Instructions
Any patient over 16 weeks old
must
be fasted the night before
the surgery. They must not have any food after 9:00 pm, but they
may have water. The patient/patients should be confined in any
area without access to any food, including mice, rats, birds, etc.
Any patient under 16 weeks old should NOT be fasted. If they are
fasted they will not maintain the appropriate blood sugar levels.
All cats must arrive to the clinic in a carrier. We do prefer that
each cat arrives in their own separate carrier. Although they may
get along well, they may not want to share the same small space
after surgery.
When transporting animals to the shelter they must be inside your
vehicle, not in your trunk or the back of an open bed truck.
Check-in time is between 7:15 and 7:45 a.m.
Post-Surgical Instructions
Pick up time is at 5:00 p.m. If you arrive later then 5:30 p.m.
your cat will be boarded at WCHS overnight, which will result in
fees.
Keep in mind that your cat/cats will not be feeling great after
their surgery. For at least the first 3 days, post-op, they should
be kept in a warm (60-70 degree), draft-free environment that is
safe from animals that may do them harm.
Upon pick up of your cat/cats, you will receive aftercare
instructions, as well as a rabies certificate and proof of
distemper and spay/neuter.
You may call WCHS with any questions.
If there is a post-operation concern with your cat, you will need
to contact your own veterinarian. |
