Dear Friends,
As I started to write this membership appeal, I reflected on
what motivates people to give to a particular organization or
cause.
Most appeals from humane organizations highlight specific
animals…those that have suffered a debilitating injury or have a
particularly heart-wrenching story. I myself have done the same
thing when appealing to all of you.
Those
are the animals that make the headlines…and people reach deep
into their pockets to help…and rush to adopt these special
animals.
But then I think of all of the other animals…the many that
stream into our shelter daily…and I feel sad. They, too, have
stories but they are not headline worthy. As each one enters our
facility, they are just another dog…or just another cat.
There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them…far more
than those who make the headlines. And they are often
overlooked.
I believe that they matter every bit as much as the others. And
they deserve our care and attention…what would they face if WCHS
weren’t here to help?
As I write this, another needy animal will come through our
doors. Just a dog…or just a cat. And, as in so
many times before, we will be here to provide them with what
they need…a warm, safe place to rest, nourishment for their
bodies, gentle hands to soothe their spirits.
How can you contribute? Your membership will enable us to be
there for them as well as those with newsworthy stories. Help us
continue our valuable work. If you’re already
a member, renew today. If you aren’t yet a member,
consider joining us in our
efforts. But please don’t forget the other animals…just a dog or
just a cat…because they matter too.
On behalf of all of our animals…thank you for your continued
support.
