Dear Friends,

During our busy days, the only time I seem to have to walk through the shelter is very early in the morning…or later in the evening when customers are gone and staff has left for the day. It is these quiet times that mean so much to me. The cats are curled up in their beds…and the dogs have finally settled down after a busy day.

As I pass their cages, they look at me and it’s almost as if I can hear them. They seem to be saying thank you…for a warm bed and caring hands. They also seem to be communicating their fear and apprehension for whatever lies ahead for them. And yet, there’s hope for each of them because of all of you.

StormJustice Sandra Day O’Connor once said, “We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone…and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” All of you make up those threads. And with your help, we’ve been able to make a difference in the lives of so many animals.

Like the 14 dogs we received from the state-wide rescue in Cazenovia. Dogs in such serious condition it’s a wonder they even survived. Teeth in horrible condition, missing or diseased eyes, skin problems resulting in almost total hair loss, emaciated bodies. Worse, little human interaction had resulted in most of the dogs being severely under-socialized and only comfortable with one another. These dogs were saved because of all of you.

Or Storm, a stray cat who could barely breathe because of the polyps growing in her ear, nose and throat. Surgery was her only option and it was made possible by all of you.

And, Pepper, a chocolate lab mix suffering from cryptococcus…a fungus growing in her lungs and close to ending her young life. She has been receiving her costly medication and monitoring x-rays, but only because of all of you.Pepper

They may come in to the shelter homeless and unwanted but I believe their voice matters. I’m reminded of that every time I see one of our animals survive a life-threatening illness, every time one of our animals makes it through a debilitating injury, every time one them leaves the shelter to go to a new home.

Your membership will help us do so much more. If you’re already a member, renew today. If you aren’t yet a member, please consider joining us. There are so many wonderful organizations out there…and so many worthwhile causes. But please don’t forget the animals. They deserve to be heard…and we need you to help us be their voice.

On behalf of our animals…thank you for your continued support.
