Dear Friends,

We all know the economy has resulted in an uncertain future. Most of us have been affected in one way or another. And, consequently, because of foreclosures and loss of jobs, the animals have been impacted as well.

There is hope however. Desmond Tutu, 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner, once said, “Each one of us can make a contribution. Too frequently we think we have to do spectacular things. Yet if we remember that the sea is actually made up of drops of water and each drop counts, each one of us can do our little bit where we are. Those little bits can come together and almost overwhelm the world.”

Even in these tough economic times, we have the ability to make a difference in the lives of animals who, through no fault of their own, come to WCHS. Animals like Guinness,* a two-year-old cat with severe wounds found crouched against a mailbox after being attacked by a dog or wild animal. Or Charlie,* a 4˝-year-old black lab who came into our shelter with a serious fracture that was left unattended.

Thanks to all of you, Guinness was medically treated and is getting a second chance to begin again with a new family. Charlie will be recovering from his surgery by the time you read this letter and he, too, will be facing a more hopeful future.

I cannot begin to tell you how important you are to our success. As a member, you will be showing that you share our commitment to alleviating the fear, pain and suffering of animals. And it is through your membership support that we are able to achieve so much.

So, please, I am asking that you remember the animals. I can certainly appreciate what a sacrifice it might mean to you during these uncertain times. But I can also assure you…no matter the size of your contribution, we will put your money to good use.

Consider yourself as one of those drops of water that Tutu refers to…and make a difference in the lives of the unwanted animals here in our shelter. Together we can overwhelm the world. And, together, we can ensure that animals like Guinness and Charlie have a chance at life.

With my heartfelt thanks for your continued compassion,

Marnie Brown
Executive Director

P.S. If you are already a member, renew your membership today. If you are not a member, join us in our efforts for the animals…no matter the amount, your tax deductible contribution will help tremendously!
