Dear Friends,

There's an old saying that the eyes are the window to the soul. And as I walk through the shelter, I can believe that. The eyes of the animals hold mysteries to their past, and stories of their lives, that we will never know.

Although their eyes hold mystery, they also communicate so much more. I look into them and see a myriad of emotions...confusion as to why they are in this noisy, unfamiliar environment...fear for their past and apprehension about their future...longing for companionship and love in their lives.

Any yet, I see something else even more significant for all of us here at the shelter. Their eyes convey an acceptance of their fate...trust in our care...and hope for a chance at something better.

All of us at WCHS want to give our animals that chance, but we cannot do it without your assistance. Your membership donations are a critical and vital part of our success. In the past, you have helped us in so many ways:

  • You have kept the doors of our shelter open by contributing supplies and providing financial support.

  • You have donated your time and talent to help us with our daily care of the animals as well as to assist us in our fundraising efforts.

  • You have responded to our pleas for emergency medical assistance so that even the most needy animals receive critical, life-saving treatment.

You have been there for us in the past and I am hoping you will continue your support as the number of animals needing our help continues to increase. I know that you share our concern and commitment to these animals who, through no fault of their own, found their way to the shelter of WCHS.

An so this year I ask that you, too, look into the eyes of our animals. Just as they put their total faith in us...we put our faith in the kindness and generosity of people like you. Working together, we can make a difference...and bring the light back into their eyes.
